Why do we complicate things

Why do we complicate things..

“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated…”

– Confucius

The “Quote” above by Confucius made before 479 BC (at least 2490 years ago) holds so true to the present day lives of ours…

Everyone, starting from an old man, having seen all he had to & more with a few days to live on earth to the small boy, who has little idea as to what is to happen to him in the time to come & all those in between, have a tendency to make things complicated even where it is as simple as opening your eyes to wake up.

For an example, take a person with enough resources at his disposal, wealthy enough to support his family well, having a good experience with a dream to do something in life worth saying “I did it“, does not do anything to achieve that particular dream, always making his first step towards that dream complicated by bringing in reasons of Family, Lifestyle, Kids, responsibility etc , and often beyond the existing ones like the ones as what if I failed, what if some emergency comes in the family, what will others say if I do it & more…

Is it so tough to take a decision about the dream you might have been dreaming for so long that even your friends & family & peer know it… Whereas, there are people with nothing with them, with your nonexistent complications in life, worries like where would I get my food from, where would I live today, however they take those first steps to their dreams, whether they achieve it or not & why, that’s an another discussion, but at least they can say that they tried & “Complications” did not let it happen.. Haven’t you seen them around you, those chaatwala, panipuriwala n boys selling stuff like Flowers, Head Massagers, Comb & Stationery on the road, and they don’t crib about that they never had resources to do what was required to earn their livelihood (Usually that’s their first dream).

On the other hand, there is also a category who have no resources & don’t even do anything to acquire those resources, and when someone else does it, their words are “He had the resources/He has the expertise/He had support/Must have done something illegal to achieve it/He had no responsibility/He had no complications in life etc”.

Again, so true that he had nothing coming in between, not even complications to create a hurdle for him because he never created any about what he really wanted to achieve. He kept it simple, from the point of his dream to the point of achieving it; He kept it as simple as opening his eyes, getting down from his bed & doing what was required to do to achieve the dream he had, plain n bare simple.

The fact is, when we see a complication coming in our lives, we take these attitudes towards it:

  1. Ohhh!! Another complication, I already have so many in my life. How am I going to manage anything at all, with so many problems I will not even be able to wake up from my bed now (Exaggerated, but isn’t it real).
  2. Oh!! Another complication, Why to bother, I would not have been able to do anything even if this had not happened.
  3. Hmm!! That one, is it a problem at all. Let it be, it will go away the way it came, let me do what I was doing.
  4. Wow!! That’s something I did not expect. Well, now as it’s here, let it give me something to proceed ahead with.

The real attitude of a winner is the last one, who takes the so called complication, turns it into his favour or at least learns something out of it to share as a story at the bare minimum with others. He does not hide, does not run, never cribs & of course, & never does he complaint about his problems in life.

But again, we have to have an understanding about the rest who can’t do what they want because they have the real complication in life, which is creating complications out of things which are not complicated & trust me friends, these people have the real complications in life.

So, what complication is keeping you away from taking that step towards your dream?

What complications do you have in your life saying “YOU CAN’T DO IT”?
